Editorial Board of Proceedings of the Institute of Vehicles is trying to observe principles of the reliability and ethics, and is requiring it from the authors publishing in the Proceedings, acting according to the Announcement of the Minister of Science and Higher Education from the 2rd of June, 2015 on criteria and the mode of the evaluation of scientific journals.
Below are presented the basic standards of ethics and diligences which should be applied in scientific publications*):
Reliability in science constitutes one of its quality foundations. Readers should be certain that authors of the publication in the transparent, solid and honest way are introducing results of their work, irrespective of, whether they are its immediate authors, or whether they were supported by special institution (natural person or legal).
Evidence of ethical attitudes researcher and the highest editorial standards should be transparency of information on entities that contribute to the creation of publications (technical input , material, financial, etc.), which is a manifestation of not only good manners , but also social responsibility.
Antithetical examples are „ghostwriting” and „guest authorship”.
„Ghostwriting” is a situation when somebody made a substantial contribution to the publication , without revealing its participation as one of the authors or without mentioning its role in the acknowledgments in the publication.
„Guest authorship” („honorary authorship”) is when the proportion of the author is little or not at all occurred, and yet it is the author / co-author of the publication.
To counteract cases such as „ghostwriting” and „guest authorship”, journals editors should introduce appropriate procedures specific to represented areas or disciplines or implement below mentioned solutions:
1. Editorial board should require authors to disclose publication of individual authors contribution in the creation of publications ( with their affiliation and contribution , ie. the information, who is the author of concepts, principles, methods , protocol, etc., used in the preparation of publications), with the main responsibility of the author declaring the manuscript.
2. Editorial board should clarify in the "Instructions for Authors", that "ghostwriting", "guest authorship" is a manifestation of scientific misconduct , and any detected cases will be unmasked , including notification of the relevant actors ( institutions employing the authors , learned societies , associations of scientific editors etc. ).
3. Editorial board should obtain information on sources of publications funding, contribution to research institutions, associations and other entities ("financial disclosure").
4. Editorial board should document all forms of scientific misconduct , especially violations and breaches of ethics in force in science.
